Ellie asked…
What are you currently watching/reading?
I’m currently watching Killing Eve and reading my way through ARCs I got from NetGalley!
Do you prefer tea or coffee?
Tea! Hands down.
Why did you start your blog?
I think I’ve answered this in another tag recently so sorry if it’s repetitive! I started my blog years back because my friend had one, but I never really used it. I started to use it at the end of my first year of University, and posted sporadically until around March when I then started to post regularly!
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
Meeting new people! I love reading what everyone is talking about. I get a lot of inspiration from reading other people’s posts or chatting to them.
Do you schedule blogging time or do you just do it when you feel like it?
I love a to-do list so I do schedule time. I’m trying out a new method at the moment. Until recently, I was writing posts, taking/editing photos and scheduling everything on a Saturday, but I’m now trying to write posts when I get time during the week so I don’t take up my whole Saturday! I’ll maybe write a post or two in an evening.
What’s your favourite hobby?
Aside from blogging and reading, it’s gaming!
What’s your dream job?
Working in publishing. I’m not sure if I want to work in marketing or editorial yet though!
Do you own any pets, or do you want any?
I don’t own any, but I’d love a dog.
Do you prefer books or films?
Can you guess from the topics on my blog? Books for sure!
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
Twitter for me because it’s where I have the most interactions. I do get a lot of comments on Instagram but I find I have more conversations on Twitter.

My Questions…

  1. What was your dream job when you were a child?
  2. Do your family/friends know about your blog? Are they supportive?
  3. What’s your ideal Saturday like?
  4. Are there any genres you dislike but you feel like everyone else in the book community loves?
  5. Who are three of your favourite musicians/bands?
  6. What’s your drink of choice for when you’re reading?
  7. If you use a star rating system for reviews, how do you personally define the categories? If you don’t, why not?
  8. What posts are you most proud of from your blog in 2020?
  9. Do you write your blog posts straight in the post builder, or do you write it on a different programme first and then copy it over? If the latter, what do you write them in?
  10. Do you plan your blog content? In terms of either writing in advance or just deciding what you will write. How far in advance do you go?

Awesome Blogger Award and Mid Year Freak Out Tag 3

I’m also doing the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag today! It’s not too late… right? I was tagged by Danni @ ForBooksSake to do this one! I’m not going to tag anyone because I’m quite aware that the middle of the year is definitely on its way out, but if any readers would like to do this tag, please do feel free to do it and link back to me, I’d love to see your answers!

How much have you read?
I’m writing this ahead of time, on July 11th, and I’ve read 43 books! By the time this goes live I expect I’ll have finished 3 more, to bring the total to 46. So probably 46, but definitely at least 43!
What have you been reading?
So I’ve been reading a lot of things! One thing I wanted to do in 2020 was to read more classics (which I’ve done), more translated books (need to get back into that!) and more diverse authors. I’ve read a few books by Black authors recently, but I’m noticing a lack of non-Black authors of colour and LGBT+ authors. I do have a fair few translated books by non-Black authors of colour which have sadly been stranded at my uni house throughout lockdown, but I’ve fully moved out now so they’re stranded no more! If you have any recommendations for adult books by LGBT+ authors, please let me know! I see many YA recs, but I’m not a YA reader so they’re not my cup of tea.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2020
Toss up between The Vegetarian by Han Kang, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. They’re so different I can’t choose.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020
I haven’t read many! I’ve only read two unless you count a couple of very loosely connected ones, so I’m going with Transit by Rachel Cusk as I didn’t like the second and third books in the Southern Reach trilogy!
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
I’m so bad at keeping up with new releases. I recently bought Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson though, which I want to get round to soon!
Most anticipated release for the second part of the year
Genuinely can’t think of any upcoming releases I’m looking forward to! Like I said, terrible at keeping up.
Biggest disappointment
Mostly Hero by Anna Burns. I really didn’t like it.
Biggest surprise
The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro (I wasn’t expecting dragons or Arthurian knights!) or Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami because I wasn’t prepared for that cat scene… (it’s gory).
New favourite author (debut or new to you)
I’m going for the ‘new to me’ category and saying Han Kang. I’d heard of her before but this year I finally picked up one of her books and wow.
Underrated gems you’ve discovered recently
Han Kang, tbh! To switch things up a bit, I’d also like to recommend The End of the Ocean by Maja Lunde.
Rereads this year
Only two – I finished my Ulysses read, and I reread The Great Gatsby for Let’s Get Classical Book Club.
Newest fictional crush
I don’t have fictional crushes!
Newest favourite character
Lizzy Bennet, though I did already love her from film adaptations so maybe Daisy Jones? She’s not a good role model, but such an interesting character to read!
Book that made you cry
None, but The Vegetarian by Han Kang and The Clocks in this House All Tell Different Times were both quite upsetting due to the topics being covered.
Book that made you happy
Pride and Prejudice!!!
Favourite book to film adaptation
I’ve only watched two this year and…. LITTLE WOMEN LITTLE WOMEN LITTLE WOMEN. Okay… done now!
Most beautiful cover you’ve bought (or received) this year
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell, hands down.
What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson, Middlemarch by George Eliot, Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi, Gravity’s Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon.
Favourite post you have done this year?
Comparison of the reading tracker apps/sites GoodReads, The StoryGraph and BookSloth. Or maybe my recent post about being in long distance relationships (friendships and romantic!)
Favourite book community member:
Oh no this is so hard! I’ve made so many friends that I couldn’t pick one. Here’s a few of the people I’ve spoken to the most!
